Our young Blues tore apart Coventry City at Cobham in a 7-0 rout as they look ahead to a pre-season tournament in Germany...

Chelsea Under-18s are two wins from two in their competitive pre-season friendlies as they followed last week's 3-0 win over Bournemouth with a 7-0 victory over Coventry at Cobham this afternoon (Wednesday).

Ed Brand's side were far too strong for the Sky Blues as the away side were only able to register one shot on target in the whole game. Among the scorers were Donnell McNeilly, Dylan Williams and Malik Mothersille.

A minute's silence was held prior to kick-off (pictured top) in memory of much-loved Academy kitman Eric Asiedu, who recently passed away.

Head coach Ed Brand spoke to us after the final whistle to give his thoughts on pre-season so far and how the team's focus is getting as sharp as possible for the new campaign.

'Pre-season has been very good so far, despite it being very condensed due to the lateness of GCSE exams,' Brand reported.

'Nonetheless, the boys have been put through their paces in the La Manga heat, as well as intense behind-closed-doors friendlies.'

He added that: 'It has been important to build on the already-strong team spirit, especially because of the addition of new first-year scholars. The team are in good spirits and we look forward to the tournament in Germany as we get closer to the first game of the season.'

Our young Blues head off to Germany on Thursday to take part in the Walter Bensemann Memorial Tournament and, following that, they face Leeds United away from home on Friday 6 August 2022.

That will be our last pre-season fixture as we begin the Under-18 Premier League campaign with a London derby against Arsenal at London Colney on Saturday 13 August. The rest of the 2022/23 academy fixtures have also been confirmed.
