Our Under-18s ran out comfortable winners with early strikes from the returning Jimi Taurainen and from Ronnie Stutter, as well as own-goal from the Villa keeper.

Ed Brand made a couple of changes from last week’s loss to Fulham, most notably the return to action for Taurainen who had been out injured for a number of weeks.

It was the perfect start for him as a quickly taken corner by Taurainen found Stutter who laid it back towards his team-mate. After a fine piece of skill to beat the onrushing defender, Taurainen curled a lovely left-footed effort which found the bottom corner of the net. A nice welcome back from injury for the Finnish player.

We doubled our lead minutes later as a Leo Castledine through ball found Stutter who made no mistake about the finish, drilling low past the Villa keeper.

We should have had a third to underline our dominance as Edwin Andersson whipped in a corner from the left-hand side which flew over the keeper, finding Josh Tobin at the back post, but he failed to convert with the goal gaping.

With Villa failing to threaten, the young Blues piled on the pressure seeking a third and after a long clearance from Ted Curd, he inadvertently found Tudor Mendel-Idowu who did well to cut in and fire a left-footed shot which brought out a fantastic save from keeper James Wright.

We did finally get our third and it came from a Taurainen corner which caught out the keeper and found its way into the net.

The second half started at a much slower tempo to the first and that could explain why Villa were first to strike, as a momentary lapse in concentration at the back allowed Harvey Rhoades to finish beyond Curd in goal.

There were a few half-chances from both sides after that but nothing of note as the game petered out with our young Blues comfortable for most of the game.
