Our young Blues had to settle for a draw in this afternoon’s clash against West Bromwich Albion as Joshua Acheampong’s equaliser helped us to secure a point.
Archie Kirton opened the scoring from distance for the away side, before Joshua Acheampong’s header gave us the equaliser.
We pushed for and deserved what would have been the winning goal in the game, but the young Baggies stood firm. Our Under-18s now have three games left before the end of the season.
Ronnie Stutter had the first clear sight at goal as his effort hit the side-netting.
Stutter was involved in the action again as he picked up a loose clearance from the goalkeeper and tried an effort from distance, but it just went wide.
Despite Chelsea being in the ascendancy, it was the young Baggies who broke the deadlock. It came through, Kirton who picked the ball up on the edge of the box and with an unopposed shot, found the top corner of the net.
The second half saw us camped in the away side’s half as we dominated possession and the chances created were endless.
Stutter, Ato Ampah, Reiss Russell-Denny and Somto Boniface all had efforts which either just flew over or were saved by the goalkeeper, who was doing well to keep his team in the lead.
For all West Brom's resilience, the equaliser came 20 minutes from time, as a delightful floated corner from Russell-Denny found the head of Acheampong, who leapt highest and found the bottom corner of the goal.
Flower had two diving headers which were kept out by goalkeeper Ronnie Hollingshead and that was how the game would end, as both sides were forced to be content with a point.
Our next game is on Saturday 22 April 2023 as we take on Crystal Palace at Cobham.
