Hassan Sulaiman's side continued our impressive form in the Under-18 Premier League Cup competition with a convincing 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Cobham on Saturday morning.

Sol Gordon opened the scoring after capitalising on a defensive error, slotting the ball past the Magpies' keeper.

Leo Cardoso doubled the lead before the break with a brilliant solo effort, using his tricky footwork to enter the area and drill in a low shot.

After the interval, Newcastle responded with a powerful goal from Logan Watts - but Chelsea quickly regained control. Cardoso netted his second, beating Will Anderson with a strike into the back of the net.

The match was sealed by schoolboy Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, who added a stunning final goal, leaving no doubt as it flew past our opponents keeper.

Finding our rhythm

The game began evenly, but it was Chelsea who had the first real chance to open the scoring.

Ollie Harrison capitalised on a quick break, picking up the ball just inside the penalty area before firing a shot at goal, only for the effort to narrowly go wide past the post.

A chance soon followed for Newcastle. Joe Brayson outpaced Lewi Richards to the far post, cutting back swiftly for Sean Neave to hammer a shot towards goal, but his effort sailed over the crossbar.

As we pressed towards our opponents' goal, Newcastle did well to dispossess us and launch another counter-attack. Matheos Ferreira tested Kai Crampton with a stinging low shot at the near post, but the Blues keeper reacted quickly, diving to push the powerful effort away.

After a period of cagey play, both sides fought for the breakthrough. The Magpies continued to threaten Chelsea's backline, counter-attacking again after winning the ball.

Trevan Sanusi worked his way into the area and faced off with Crampton, but his effort lacked the power to beat our goalkeeper.

However, the Blues created our own problems. Genesis Antwi charged upfield and sent a clever ball to Frankie Runham just outside the area, but Watts did well to intercept the shot and divert the ball away from danger.

Antwi was involved again, this time with a chance of his own. Yahyah Idrissi displayed impressive skill, timing a perfect backheel pass to Antwi on the wing. Antwi hammered a shot from distance, but it bounced wide past the post.

Being ruthless

That was the final warning for our weekend opponents, as we finally broke the deadlock.

Gordon scored his fifth goal of the season, as he pounced on a weak pass from the Newcastle keeper. He ran onto the ball and as he reached the area, fired the ball straight down the middle, leaving Anderson with no chance to save.

Almost immediately, Gordon had the chance to double our advantage after a lovely link-up with Antwi. He picked out Gordon inside the area, but his chipped effort drifted wide, denying him a quickfire brace.

On the half-hour mark, Newcastle had an opportunity to level the score. Their captain Leo Shahar swung in a free-kick where Sam Alab connected with a header, but the ball lifted over the crossbar.

As the first half drew to a close and the teams battled into stoppage time, Cardoso made a bright run weaving his way into the centre of the box. He unleashed a powerful right-footed shot, picking out the bottom corner and putting the Blues 2-0 ahead at the interval.

After the break, Chelsea came out strong with Idrissi testing Anderson between the sticks early on with a high effort. The keeper did well to get his hands up and palm the shot away.

Moments later, the Moroccan winger pressured the Magpies' defence again, as his powerful effort slammed against the woodwork, giving Newcastle another close escape.

Landon Emenalo came agonisingly close to scoring with a powerful strike from outside the box. After picking up Runham’s curling corner following a failed clearance by a Newcastle defender, his shot skimmed just over the crossbar.

But Newcastle pulled a goal back from a set-piece. Shahar’s corner found Watts outside the box, and he sent a shot flying beyond Crampton’s reach.

Not enough to stop us

Chelsea responded perfectly by adding a third goal. Richards sent a long ball to Cardoso, who had been causing problems since the restart. Dribbling into the box, he fired a low shot into the bottom corner, slipping it past the keeper.

In injury time, substitute Kavuma-McQueen closed the scoring. Chizaram Ezenwata stole the ball from an opponent and crossed to the schoolboy, who stormed upfield and drilled in a low strike - securing the three points for the afternoon.
