Quality goals from Michael Golding and Josh Acheampong either side of half time gave our young Blues victory in Saturday morning’s London derby.

Our young Blues made it back-to-back wins in the Under-18 Premier League as we ran out 2-1 winners against Tottenham Hotspur this morning.

Our first opening was a half chance but was still a well-worked move as Tudor Mendel-Idowu played an incisive pass which found Frankie Runham, and the young winger’s cross found a towering Louis Flower in the box, but he failed to control his header as it went over.

The first half switched momentum between the two sides as both sides went in search the opener.

Breakthrough

Midway through the first-half we got the goal our play deserved, as Runham beat his man down the left flank and picked out his team-mate Golding who set himself and curled into the top corner.

Spurs did go close though as William Lankshear created two openings in the box, but Harrison Murray-Campbell’s perfectly-timed blocks kept us in the lead.

The home team were getting closer and this time it was Ted Curd who prevented a leveller as he saved well from a Max McKnight shot.

A Louis Flower header was diverted towards goal following a Runham delivery from a free-kick, required a good save from the Spurs shot-stopper.

We looked comfortable towards the end of the half, but on the stroke of half time a loose ball in midfield was picked up by the hosts and a cross into the box found Jamie Donley who had an easy finish at the back-post to level the scoring.

The first big chance of the second period fell to Mendel-Idowu who tried to steer a header from Harrison McMahon’s cross on goal, but he missed the target.

The winner

After a nice piece of skill and a lay-off from Mendel-Idowu, full-back Acheampong from outside the box smashed into the top corner a left-footed effort which gave the keeper no chance. Fantastic effort.

Mendel-Idowu almost got onto the scoresheet himself, as he leapt highest to meet a Somto Boniface cross, but Luca Gunter tipped over.

Two big Curd saves were needed towards the end of the game to secure the three points.

Our young Blues will be in action next week Saturday as we face Fulham at home in another London derby.
