The Premier League 2 leaders handed Chelsea Under-21s our third loss of the season at the Lamex Stadium, despite the Blues being ahead late into the second half, as three unanswered goals gave Tottenham the win.

Yago Alonso gave Spurs the lead with a neat finish but just before half-time we equalised through Ronnie Stutter’s powerful drive from outside the box.

Somto Boniface gave us the lead early in the second and, after controlling most of the half, Spurs were gifted an equaliser when a loose pass was picked up by the home side, who converted with Eddie Beach off his line.

Two more goals from Tottenham condemned us to defeat away from home despite a good showing.

Trading blows

Our Under-21s started brightly under the lights in the pouring rain at the Lamex Stadium, looking to derail Tottenham’s good start to the season.

Ronnie Stutter had our first chance of the game, connecting from just outside of the box following a Leo Castledine cross, but he failed to get a clean strike on the ball.

Spurs called Beach into action twice in quick succession, but he stood tall to deny Nile John on both occasions.

A dubious call followed as Morgan looked to have been challenged unfairly in the box, but the referee waved play on.

The home side took the lead soon after and, following a series of challenges which Spurs were stronger in, the loose ball broke into the path of Max Robson. His eventual cross found Alonso, whose improvised finish found the corner of the net.

A fine team move followed from our young Blues and it saw us make a number of quality passes. It ended with Zain Silcott-Duberry wriggling his way into the box and firing a shot, which was saved by the keeper, having looked destined for the bottom corner.

Four minutes before half-time we got the goal that we deserved and it came through Stutter, who put pressure on the Spurs backline and after dispossessing his opponent. From just outside the box, he settled himself and rifled a shot into the top corner of the net.

Taking the initiative

We took the lead in the second half, and it came through the impressive Boniface, who used his speed to get round the outside of his defender and smash into the roof of the net.

Our young Blues remained in the ascendancy and a Dylan Williams cross flashed across the face of the box. After being in control of the game, we conceded a sloppy goal to the home side as a misplaced pass was intercepted by Santiago and he played in Donley, who saw the keeper off his line and curled in from distance.

Losing grip

There was a lull in play but five minutes before the end of the game, but then Donley picked up the ball in acres of space and provided the finish to put his side ahead and grab his second of the game.

The home side sealed the win with a fast counter-attack, led by Santiago, which resulted in him laying the ball off for John to tuck away.
