Chelsea Under-21s claimed a first victory in the Premier League International Cup as a fine attacking display secured a 4-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb at Kingsmeadow.

Dinamo were no match for our young Blues on the night, with strikes from Billy Gee, Ronnie Stutter, Tyrique George, and an own goal enough for Mark Robinson's side to claim their first points in Group B.

It was Gee who opened the scoring after just six minutes, and Stutter and George also struck before the half-time interval.

Zagreb attempted a fightback in the second period and reduced the deficit through Toni Majic. However, after Ivan Cvetko turned the ball into his own net, Chelsea's win was never in doubt.

Attacking with confidence

The performance and result was exactly what Robinson was hoping for after a lacklustre display last time out against Leicester City.

Chelsea, who needed to claim victory to keep their chances of advancing from Group B alive, started the game on the front foot and pushed Zagreb back.

The pressure quickly paid off. George was given time to fire a shot toward goal that required saving by Dorian Klarin. But his parry fell to Gee in the six-yard box and the midfielder finished well.

Chelsea didn't let-up and the incisive play continued. George came close as he latched onto a through ball, rounded Klarin, and guided a shot toward goal. Unfortunately, with George off balance, the shot didn't end in the net.

Attack vs defence

Chelsea were dominant and good play from Jimmy-Jay Morgan saw him get to the byline and cross excellently for Stutter, but the striker’s attempt was saved by the feet of Klarin.

The second our play deserved arrived soon after, though. George was again involved as he played a lofted through ball to Stutter, who brought down expertly and found the finish to match.

George was a consistent creative presence during the opening 45 minutes and he almost fashioned our third; he played an inch-perfect pass to Michael Golding, who did not need to break stride, but his resultant shot was saved.

Our third did arrive before the break and it was a deserved goal for George. The 17-year-old was given the chance to pick his spot from the edge of the penalty area and the ball nestled in the corner of the Dinamo goal.

Zagreb made a triple change ahead of the second period, but it was one of their starters who went close. Ante Susak pounced on a loose pass but skied his eventual shot.

Dinamo were arguably the better side in the early stage of the second half and they got their goal through Majic, who dispossessed Josh Brooking and finished well from a tight angle.

Chelsea responded to the setback and Stutter went close to grabbing his second. The striker found space inside the box but his shot was saved by the outstretched leg of Klarin.

Back in charge

Our fourth came via Zagreb’s own doing as a clearance in the box ricocheted off Cvetko into our net.

We should have had a fifth with Stutter in the thick of the action; the striker intercepted a pass and was unfortunate to see his effort cleared off the line.

Robinson's side saw out the game comfortably, with our young Blues emphatic winners on the night.

The three points mean our boys register their first win of the group stage. Zagreb are still without a point.

What next?

Our Under-21s are next in action on Friday (November 3) evening as they take on west London neighbours Fulham in Premier League 2.

Their next Premier League International Cup game will be against Celtic, a fixture that is currently scheduled for December 20.
