It was straight to work for the Chelsea players following our arrival in the USA.
The Blues arrived in San Jose in the early hours of Tuesday morning. A short journey to our hotel followed before the players made their way to their rooms for a few hours of sleep.
Breakfast was followed by the playing squad and coaching heading out for a leisurely walk around the local area. It was an opportunity to shake off some of the jet lag and get bodies moving after a long flight.
The morning also saw the arrival of Moises Caicedo, who linked up with his teammates after flying in separately following his exploits with Ecuador at the Copa America.
A session in the hotel swimming pool, where the players could stretch their muscles and further loosen up ahead of the day, completed the morning schedule.
After lunch, the players headed to the iconic Stanford University – and the home of their Stanford Cardinal college football team – for an open training session.
The Blues will be based at Stanford Stadium in the build-up to the opening match of our 2024 USA Tour against Wrexham at the nearby Levi’s Stadium on Wednesday, with kick-off 7pm local time, 10pm ET and 3am BST (Thursday 25 July).
The players started with pre-activation work in the gym before heading out onto the grass.
The session began with some Rondos for the outfield players before Enzo Maresca worked on attacking patterns of play.
Maresca and captain Reece James then travelled to Levi’s Stadium, home of NFL side San Francisco 49ers, for their respective press conferences previewing the match with Wrexham.
And our new head coach reiterated his desire to forge a strong relationship between the team and the Blues supporters.
‘It is always important to have a connection with the fans,' he said. 'The fans in the US, the fans in England, the fans anywhere.’
James, meanwhile, is pleased to be working hard out on the grass after a challenging 2023/24 campaign.
I’m in a good place and I am excited for the season,’ he said. ‘The last 16 months have been frustrating, whether that be suspension or injury, but I’m really excited.
'I feel like I’m in a good place for this season and I cannot wait to get playing and find my rhythm again.’
As the players enjoyed dinner and relaxation time at the hotel, Blues legend Carlo Cudicini spent the evening with over 200 supporters at a fans’ event at The Brit sports bar in San Jose.
Hosted by the San Jose Blues and Bay Area Blues, Cudicini joined host Zac Djellab on stage to discuss all things Chelsea and to answer supporters’ questions. Those in attendance also had the chance to meet the fans’ favourite.
