Robert Sanchez’s brilliant penalty save against Bournemouth adorns the cover of our programme for tonight’s game against Barrow, which includes an exclusive interview with new signing Renato Veiga.
The Portuguese youngster is just as enthusiastic off the pitch as he is on it, and he reveals how much he is loving life at Stamford Bridge in his early weeks as a Blue, during which he has already built up a rapport with the supporters.
‘I’m just trying to enjoy every moment,’ he said. ‘I always loved the Premier League. It was the only league I truly watched every game from. I could watch the last-placed team playing against the next-to-last team and it was always exciting for me.
‘I love the environment inside the stadiums and how much it means to the fans. For us players, knowing how much it means to them gives us an extra boost. It’s just nice to play in those environments.’
Veiga also talks about the influence of his father Nelson, a former Cape Verde international, on his football career to date, and highlights some of the Blues he enjoyed watching the most when he was growing up.
The programme also includes interviews with Kevin McAllister, a flying Scottish winger who won silverware at the Bridge in the Eighties, and Nigel Bowie, a season-ticket holder whose dad Jimmy was on target in our only previous competitive meeting with Barrow.
There’s also the latest from head coach Enzo Maresca, captain Reece James and columns from the Women’s and Academy set-ups as they reflect on the early part of their campaigns.
