Renato Veiga was disappointed with our performance during our 2-1 defeat to Servette, but was pleased to confirm our place in the next phase of the Conference League.

Christopher Nkunku got us off to a good start as the Frenchman put us into the lead before the 15-minute mark. But despite a strong opening period, Servette responded with two goals either side of half-time and secured the victory on the night.

Although the Blues progressed to the next stage with a 3-2 win on aggregate, Renato believes that we could’ve performed better, especially after taking the lead early in the tie.

‘It was a weird game,’ Veiga said. ‘It’s a difficult environment and we knew that before the game, but we're through and that’s the most important thing.

‘We could’ve managed the game a bit better sometimes and calmed down a bit, but it’s football and that’s the beauty of the game.

‘We could’ve done better at 1-0. We could’ve killed the game, but we didn’t and we had to go after it.’

Having played in Switzerland last season, the 21-year-old was well-versed in what to expect from Servette.

‘It's a different game,’ he explained. ‘They are very direct. They are used to this and they did a good job.

‘We won overall, we did a good job and we move to the next game against Crystal Palace, and move to the next round of the Conference League.’

Renato also paid a special tribute to the away supporters who travelled to Geneva.

‘It will be good to play at home in front of our fans [on Sunday],’ he added.

‘We go back tomorrow and get ready again. Thank you so much for supporting us. They are the best fans.’
