Christian Pulisic vs West Ham United (H) – Premier League

Pulisic’s first Chelsea goal since the Champions League win over Lille came at a crucial moment. The American came off the bench and secured a 1-0 victory in the last minute of the game by sweeping Marcos Alonso’s cross into the bottom corner with a precise finish, sending Stamford Bridge wild with relieved joy.

Marcos Alonso vs Manchester United (A) – Premier League

Two years to the day since his last goal against Manchester United, Alonso again fired a brilliant volley past his fellow Spaniard David De Gea. Reece James’ cross from the right was flicked on by Kai Havertz and when it fell to our wing-back he made no mistake, striking a volley clean and true across goal into the bottom corner to give us the lead at Old Trafford.

Bethany England (first goal) vs Reading (H) – Women’s Super League

England scored twice and got an assist as the Blues put five past Reading, but it is her first goal which is nominated. She doubled our lead over the Royals after half-time when she won possession high up the pitch and threaded a pass to Guro Reiten, before charging into the box to superbly volley the Norwegian’s resulting cross low into the back of the net.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek vs Crystal Palace (N) – FA Cup

Loftus-Cheek’s first Chelsea goal in three years was well worth the wait as he fired us into the lead in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. When Havertz’s deflected cross bounced towards the midfielder there was only one thing in his mind, as he smashed a venomous half-volley high into the net to score against his former club Crystal Palace and set the Blues on our way to the final.

Antonio Rudiger vs Brentford (H) – Premier League

Rudiger’s long-range effort has also been nominated for Premier League Goal of the Month and it’s not hard to see why. The German defender had threatened to score a goal like this on several occasions, but finally found the net from distance against Brentford. Picking the ball up fully 35 yards out, Rudiger unleashed a sweet shot which whistled through the air and in off the inside of the near post.

Guro Reiten vs Tottenham Hotspur (A) – Women’s Super League

This was a goal all of Reiten’s own making to get us back level in a crucial London derby against Spurs. A week after scoring against Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-finals, she did it again by leaving the full-back for dead with a clever piece of skill before looping a perfectly-weighted lob over the goalkeeper and in at the far post from an impossible angle.

Mason Mount (first goal) vs Southampton (A) – Premier League

The boyhood Portsmouth fan continued his excellent record against Southampton by scoring at St Mary’s for the third game running. He netted twice there on this occasion, but it was his first which is nominated. Mount collected Loftus-Cheek’s deflected cross outside the box and waited patiently for the ball to settle before drilling a precise daisycutter across the turf and into the bottom corner, helping us on our way to an emphatic 6-0 victory.

Jessie Fleming vs Tottenham Hotspur (A) – Women’s Super League

Fleming put the icing on the cake of our 3-1 derby win away at Tottenham by scoring a fantastic goal with the last kick of the game. The Canadian international had only been on the pitch 10 minutes when the Spurs defenders backed off 30 yards from goal, and she needed no second invitation to let fly with a swerving strike which gave the keeper no chance on its way to the top corner.

Mason Mount vs Real Madrid (A) – Champions League

We needed an early goal to get things started on our quarter-final second leg trip to the Bernebeu and Mount duly provided it after 15 minutes. Mateo Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek and Timo Werner had all played their part in cutting Real Madrid open, but Mount had plenty to do as he ran onto the ball just inside the box, before curling an accurate first-time effort past Thibaut Courtois to put us ahead on the night.
