Chelsea is delighted to confirm the signing of Mia Fishel, with the American forward joining the Blues from Mexican side Tigres ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The 22-year-old has penned a three-year deal with Chelsea until the summer of 2026. Fishel makes the move to London from Liga MX Femenil, the highest division of women’s football in Mexico, where she has represented Tigres since January 2022.
Speaking on signing for Chelsea, Fishel said: ‘I’m super excited, it’s a dream come true and everything that I’ve worked for since I was a kid until now. It’s all worth it and it’s all paid off because now I’m playing for one of the best clubs in the world.
‘I’m excited to know London, to meet the people and get to know everybody. I’m blessed and excited to start this journey with Chelsea.’
Manager Emma Hayes commented: ‘Mia is an exceptional finisher whose box presence and movement make her elite. She can also create something from nothing and her prime years are to come.’
General manager Paul Green added: ‘Mia is a born goalscorer and we think that she’s at a great age to take the next step in her career. We’re really excited and feel that her pace and power is going to be a big asset for the team in the upcoming years.’
Born in San Diego, California, the American began her playing career with the UCLA Bruins and competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. She went on to sign for Tigres in the Liga MX Femenil, helping them to the title in her first season while finishing as the league’s top scorer.
Last month, Fishel scored twice as Tigres recorded a 3-0 aggregate victory across two legs against Club America which clinched the Champion of Champions title, an annual Mexican football competition.
Fishel has represented her country 28 times at youth international level. She netted 13 goals as the USWNT claimed the Under-20 CONCACAF Championship in 2020, a record for any U.S. Youth National Team player in any CONCACAF competition. She was awarded the Golden Ball for the tournament.
Everyone at Chelsea warmly welcomes Mia to the club, and wishes her every success for the upcoming years in blue.
