A goal in each half from Sam Kerr earned the Blues a victory on the road to restore our two-point lead at the top of the league standings.

Emma Hayes’ side dominated proceedings at The Hive Stadium but had to wait until the 41st minute to find a breakthrough.

Guro Reiten delivered a teasing cross into the box and Kerr tapped home at the back post to give her side a much-deserved 1-0 lead.

Seven minutes into the second half and Chelsea doubled our advantage and once again it was Reiten and Kerr who combined to create another goal for the Blues.

Kerr rose highest to meet a cross from Reiten and although Kerr’s initial effort was saved by former Blues goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer, the Australian reacted first to slot in the rebound.

Chelsea had opportunities to add to our advantage with Bethany England and Erin Cuthbert both going close late on.

All eyes will now be on our final game of the league campaign against Reading at Kingsmeadow on Sunday, where three points will see Chelsea retain our WSL title.

Emma Hayes made five changes to the side that started our Champions League semi-final victory over Bayern Munich, with Andersson, Cuthbert, Spence, Reiten and England all named in the starting 11 for this evenings clash with Spurs.

Charles played left-back in Sunday’s semi-final win but the youngster switched to right-back and Andersson slotted into her usual left-back position.

Skipper Eriksson and Bright lined up in central defence to complete a back four ahead of Berger.

Ingle was the only player to keep her place in the Blues midfield and the Wales captain was joined by Spence in the middle of midfield, while Cuthbert and Reiten occupied the flanks.

England partnered Kerr up front for the Blues and Hayes had plenty of strength on a bench which included Fran Kirby, Pernille Harder and Ji So-Yun.

It was a fast start at the Hive Stadium with both sides having opportunities to take an early lead within the opening two minutes.

Rianna Dean first went through on goal for the hosts but Berger was equal to her effort and seconds later Ingle’s close-range effort was saved by Spencer.

A flurry of attacks followed for the Blues but the hosts had Spencer to thank once again as she denied a header from Spence and moments later palmed away a powerful strike from Ingle.

It was all Chelsea at this point but the Blues were unable to find a way past Spencer with Charles and England also seeing efforts saved by the Spurs keeper.

Despite the Blues dominating, the hosts did have a rare attack and this time it was Chelsea goalkeeper Berger who was called into action as she saved an effort from Lucy Quinn with her feet at the near post.

The Spurs defence continued to come under a barrage of attacks and Chelsea finally got a much-deserved breakthrough four minutes before the break.

Bright found Reiten on the left with a pin-point diagonal ball and the Norwegian delivered an equally brilliant first-time teasing cross into the box.

England was inches away from getting a touch but Kerr was arriving at the back post and the Australian slotted into the bottom corner to give the Blues a 1-0 lead.

Chelsea started the second half on the front foot and were denied by the woodwork within the opening minute as Andersson’s effort crashed off the cross bar.

It seemed as though the second half was going to mirror the first 45 with Chelsea dictating play but this time, crucially, the Blues were able to provide a clinical finish early on and extend our advantage.

Just like our opening goal, Reiten picked out Kerr in the box and although Spencer got a hand to the Australian’s header, the No.20 followed up on the rebound to score her 20th league goal of the season.

England, who had been a constant threat all evening, nearly added a third but her goal-bound header deflected off a Spurs defender before Cuthbert had a 20-yard drive saved by Spencer late on.

Today’s win sees Chelsea go two points clear at the top of the league with one game remaining.

The Blues face Reading at Kingsmeadow on Sunday for our final game of the WSL campaign, where three points will secure back-to-back league titles.
