European record

FC Twente made their European bow during the 2011/12 season. They entered in the round of 32 and were beaten by Russian side WFC Rossiyanka over two legs.

In the old format – which saw clubs progress to the round of 32 either directly or through qualifying – the Dutch side featured six times in total and reached the round of 16 on three occasions.

This is the first season Twente have qualified for the group stage since it's introduction ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Chelsea will be the first English side Twente have faced in the Champions League. They have previously met Scottish club Glasgow City and Welsh outfit Cardiff City in qualifying.

2024/25 so far…

Twente have played only one match in the Eredivisie this season, where they beat Fortuna Sittard 3-1 on the opening day.

To reach this year’s group stage, they saw off Cardiff City and Zalur in the first rounds of qualifying, before defeating Croatian side ZNK Osijek over two legs in round two.

Squad

All but three of FC Twente’s current squad are from the Netherlands. Their international players are Welsh goalkeeper Olivia Clark, Australian midfielder Daniela Galic, and Icelandic midfielder Amanda Andradottir.

Former players notably include current Chelsea midfielder Wieke Kaptein who joined the Blues from Twente last summer before returning there on loan for the 2023/24 season.

She made her official debut for the Dutch club in the Champions League at only 15 years old.
