Chelsea Women’s Denise Reddy and Lauren James have been nominated for the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Manager of the Month and Player of the Month awards for October as the Blues recorded three straight league victories.
On the pitch, there have been some outstanding individual displays and James, who has grown in confidence as the month progressed, has seen her efforts rewarded with a nomination for October’s WSL Player of the Month.
Having taken up both attacking and midfield roles, James stole the show in our 3-1 victory over Aston Villa to close out the month, scoring twice and assisting Sam Kerr for our third goal, which put the game to bed.
James also contributed significantly to our 3-1 away victory at Everton and the 2-0 win at Brighton & Hove Albion, tormenting defences with her pace, creativity and playing a key role in some excellent attacking combinations.
James goes up against Dagny Brynjarsdottir (West Ham United), Mary Earps (Manchester United), Leah Galton (Manchester United), Frida Maanum (Arsenal) and Khadija Shaw (Manchester City) for the award, with the winner to be announced in due course.
Voting for Player of the Month will close at 10am on Monday 7 November.
Reddy has been nominated for the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Manager of the Month award with a 100 per cent record in the league in the absence of manager Emma Hayes.
It was a brilliant month for the Blues as we earned maximum points through October with victories over Everton, Brighton and Aston Villa. The coaching staff, led by Reddy and Paul Green, and the players have responded excellently in Hayes’ absence to maintain our title challenge.
Reddy has overseen three consecutive league wins in which we scored eight goals and conceded twice in the process. We earned battling victories away from home against Everton and Brighton, before overcoming Aston Villa on home soil to close out the month.
This fine run of form has earned Reddy a deserved nomination for October’s WSL Manager of the Month where she is joined by Arsenal’s Jonas Eidevall, Manchester United’s Marc Skinner and Manchester City’s Gareth Taylor with the winner due to be announced soon.
This vote will also close at 10am on Monday 7 November.
