The workshop aimed to raise awareness of these issues and encourage organisations to take proactive steps towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

This past week, our Under-13 to Under-16 teams took part in a special workshop to mark Stephen Lawrence Day.

The workshop was organised by the Stephen Lawrence Foundation, which was established in memory of Stephen Lawrence, a young black man who was murdered in a racist attack in London in 1993 and today marks the 30 year anniversary of his tragic death. The foundation aims to create a fairer and more inclusive society by providing educational and career opportunities to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

During the workshop, our young Blues learned about Stephen Lawrence's life and legacy, as well as the ongoing fight against racism and discrimination in society. They also took part in interactive activities and discussions aimed at promoting diversity, inclusion, and respect.

The workshop formed part of the Chelsea Academy's football education programme which has an ongoing commitment to promoting equality and diversity in football and was praised by coaches and players alike.

The Under-16s head coach Scott Hastings gave his thoughts on what was a powerful workshop.

‘It was a really powerful experience for our young players to learn about Stephen Lawrence's story and the work of the Foundation in his memory,' he said.

'We believe that football has the power to unite people from all backgrounds, and workshops like this help us to build a more inclusive and tolerant society both on and off the pitch.’

Chief executive Jessica Neil also gave her thoughts on the workshop with our young Blues.

'The 22nd of April marks the 30th anniversary of Stephen’s death, which is a hugely significant milestone for us all. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to Chelsea FC for supporting our work, and for their continued commitment to equity, both on and off the pitch.'

She added that, 'Sharing Stephen's story with them, answering their questions and witnessing their genuine passion and determination to play an active role in supporting us to continue his legacy, fills me with hope for the transformative power of football to unite communities and drive meaningful social change for generations to come.'
