Millie Bright started every game for the Lionesses as England Women on home soil won their first-ever European Championship trophy.

The Chelsea centre-back played a key role in the heart of defence for the Lionesses, who conceded just twice all tournament.

Reflecting on the successes of the summer, Bright simply described it as ‘Unbelievable,’ adding: ‘I can’t even put it into words right now.

‘A summer to remember, so proud of everyone; the team, the staff, the players, the fans have been incredible. I hope everyone is proud of what this nation has achieved, not just us winning, but the crowds we have rallied up game after game, not only for ourselves but for every team, it’s been incredible.’

After a summer of record-breaking support from fans, the Blues star wants the momentum to carry on into the new season.

‘The women’s game is massive now,’ Bright explained. ‘It’s to be respected. This is the foundation and we have to move on from this in the WSL and other leagues. We set the tone and now we need to keep it going.’

Bright is one of four Chelsea players who left Wembley with a medal around her neck and the defender was bursting with pride for her fellow team-mates.

‘It’s unbelievable to win with my Chelsea team-mates. Proud of each and every one of them, and every player that has been in this squad.’

Chelsea Women will kick off the new WSL season with a game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday September 11.
