Fran Kirby looked back on her earlier England career to put the magnitude of her triumph at Wembley on Sunday into context.
The Chelsea star started every game for the Lionesses as their nation hosted Euro 2022, and played her part in the capturing of their first piece of major silverware.
Clutching the trophy, she spoke about how it felt.
‘It's amazing and it's something that I've dreamed of for a long time. I failed a couple of times with this team so to win this now is amazing.
‘It’s incredible. I got to the 2015 World Cup and we've been at a few semi-finals since then, so to get to the final and win this one is amazing. It's unbelievable.’
Kirby also praised the use of England’s substitutes, with both goals in the 2-1 win over Germany coming from players who came on, including the first from Ella Toone who had replaced her during the second half.
‘Players coming in off the bench again to help us get the win, and that's what this team is all about,’ Kirby said.
